WELL CAST! 5000 YEARS OF BRONZE

Does an Egyptian clean purchaser? Where did a Greek reflect himself? And how did a Roman
make a source statue? The discovery of bronze, about 5000 years applies, meant a terrible
technological revolution.

The exhibition WELL CAST! 5000 YEARS BRONZE examine the use of bronze in the mediterranean area,
of West Asia - where it started - by means of Egypt until the Greek Roman world. The emphasis lies on the
multi-purpose relation between people and bronze. Five top pieces from five regions lead you the world
of people in bronze. WELL CAST shows original objects from its own collectie completed with particular
collections from the realm museum of archeologie in Leiden. A captivating overview of the possibilities
of bronze and the technical possibilities where one is in antiquity state was.

Gli Etruschi: De Amsterdamse beeldhouwster-medailleur Carla Klein (1943) heeft tussen 1992 en 1998
vijf penningen gemaakt, geïnspireerd op Etruskische wandschilderingen uit Tarquinia. In 1989 had zij op
de Etrusken-tentoonstelling in het Allard Pierson Museum tekeningen van Carlo Ruspi naar deze fresco’s gezien.
Vier afbeeldingen zijn ontleend aan de Tomba del Triclinio (480-470 v. Chr.) en een aan de Tomba del Letto
Funebre (470-460 v. Chr.). De keerzijden van de penningen is gelijk. De vogels en dolfijnen zijn ontleend aan
schilderingen in de Tomba della Caccia e Pesca (ca. 510 v. Chr.). Deze serie is te zien tijdens de tentoonstelling.
 Op de afbeelding ziet u een 'Dubbelhobospeler' (1995). Hij is gekleed in een doorschijnend tenue en loopt
op de afbeelding naar links. Vijf vogels ziet u op de olijftakken. De twee bovenste zitten te fluiten, twee zitten
op de takken en de onderste pikt aan de olijven.

In the period between 1993 and 1998 sculptress-medallist Carla Klein (1943), living and working in Amsterdam,
created five medals inspired by the Etruscans, the  fascinating people from Central-Italy, "1100-90 B.C.
Carla Klein chose four of these drawings from the Grave of the Banquet, Tomba del Triclinio, 480-470 B.C.
in Tarquinia, Italy, and one from the Grave of the Deathbed, Tomba del Letto Funebre,
470-460 B.C., also in Tarquinia.

In 1995 Klein depicted a Twin-flute player on the third medal. With a clarity that reminds
of a cameo she shaped a boy playing the twin-flute, the oboe of ancient times.
He, too, wears a transparant attire and walks leftwards. On olive-branches five birds
are seated, the ones on top whistling a melody and one at the bottom
picking at the olives.

Bereikbaarheid: Het museum is bereikbaar vanaf het Centraal Station met de tramlijnen 4, 9, 16, 24 en 25.
Het museum is goed toegankelijk voor minder validen en beschikt over één invalidenparkeerplaats
direct naast de ingang. Verder kunt u in de omgeving parkeren in de parkeergarages
bij de Stopera of bij de Bijenkorf.
