THE Fourth INTERNATIONAL BIENAL OF CONTEMPORARY MEDALS- SEIXAL 2005 (Portugal)
 

Important international prize for voor Carla Klein.

THE INTERNATIONAL BIENAL OF CONTEMPORARY MEDALS is organised every two years.  A congress is held and there are exhibitions and workshops. An international jury selected Carla Klein’s medal ‘Trojka’ for the First Prize from an entry of 154 medallists and 25 countries. Here are some pictures.

DE IV INTERNATIONAL  BIENAL OF CONTEMPORARY - SEIXAL

IV International Biennial of Contemporary Medal

Since 1997, date of the 1ª Exposition of Contemporary Medal in Seixal, which took place in the Exhibitions Gallery Augusto Cabrita, at the Fórum Cultural do Seixal, that Câmara Municipal do Seixal invests in the dissemination and promotion of contemporary medal as a form of autonomous art.

At the I International Biennial of Contemporary Medal of Seixal, held in 1999, some of the most important authors were present, totalizing 61 medalists, from various countries. Confirming the growing logic and the prestige of the Biennial we’ve counted, on the last edition, with the participation of 154 medalists of 25 countries: Portugal, Germany, Australia, Bulgaria, USA, Slovakia, Spain, Finland, France, The Netherlands, Hungary, United Kingdom, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Yugoslavia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and Ukraine. 

It is, then, the major portuguese event in this area.

With the realization of the IV International Biennial of Contemporary Medal – Seixal, the Seixal Municipality looks to contribute to the knowledge about the past, the present and the future of contemporary medal and unite, in the same public space, the academic community, the creators and the local community.

Therefore, besides of the Exhibition of the works in contest, it’s planned a large assembly of initiatives, like conferences, art ateliers and workshops, targeted to diversified audiences and to the county schools.
